When Logo Installation is a Piece of Cake

Alba Cafe & Cucina is a cafeteria and bistro in Ulm, operating under the Dolce GmbH umbrella.

The family story behind the business reaches back to 1975 in Como, Italy, where Gianni Forgione and his wife Alba learned the craft of Italian pastry making. Decades later, that tradition continues in Ulm, where the family-owned café first opened its doors.

As part of a recent rebranding, Alba Cafe & Cucina wanted to give its exterior appearance a more modern, minimalistic look. Today, a cadout-manufactured acrylic glass logo brings that updated identity onto the façade.

The challenge: Making a modern rebrand visible from the street

Alba Cafe & Cucina had recently updated its logo and overall visual appearance. The new brand direction was more minimalistic and modern, but that new look also needed to become visible in the physical space.

Alba’s location depends strongly on walk-in customers, and local visibility plays an important role in attracting people from the street. In a city with a high density of cafés and strong competition, a clean and recognizable exterior sign helps the business stand out.

Without a new exterior logo, the rebranding would have remained less visible from the outside.

The challenge was therefore clear:

Alba needed a high-quality logo installation that matched the new brand identity, improved street-side visibility and worked reliably on the existing exterior wall.

The solution: An acrylic glass logo with two mounting methods

Alba's logo installed on the facade

For the new exterior branding, Alba chose an acrylic glass logo with a hybrid installation mounting system:

The main “Alba” lettering was mounted with spacers. This gave the brand name more depth and created a subtle shadow effect on the façade.

The smaller “Cafe · Cucina” lettering was mounted directly onto the wall using adhesive elements. This created a clean, flat result for the smaller letters and made the installation practical for the specific design.

This combination made it possible to keep the desired visual appearance while adapting the mounting method to the different parts of the logo. The result was a solution that matched the design, the façade and the practical requirements of an outdoor application.

Configuration, guidance and the right mounting recommendation

Das Alba Logo im Konfigurator

The project was managed by Susi Schmid, working-student in marketing at Dolce GmbH.

She was responsible for the full process: planning, supplier coordination, material selection, ordering and coordination of the installation. Her main concerns before ordering were practical ones. Would the material hold properly on the exterior wall? Would the installation become complicated? And would the final logo look the way they imagined once mounted in real life?

These are common concerns when ordering custom signage online. A logo can look good digitally, but the real test starts when it has to be manufactured, delivered and installed on an actual surface.

The Web2Cut configurator played an important role in the purchase decision because it helped Susi get a clearer idea of the final result before ordering. After the purchase, one detail required closer coordination: the smaller lettering in the logo needed a different fastening method than the larger “Alba” lettering.

We recommended a hybrid solution. The larger letters were mounted with spacers, while the smaller lettering was applied directly to the wall.
For Susi, this recommendation was the decisive point. It allowed the logo to be implemented in the way the company wanted while still keeping the installation realistic and suitable for the façade.

The result: A hybrid-mounted logo easily installed

The final logo was installed by Alba’s electrician. With the right preparation and recommendations, the process was straightforward.

The finished result is a professional exterior logo installation that brings Alba’s modernized brand identity onto the street.  The logo now gives the café a more contemporary exterior appearance and makes the rebrand visible to passers-by.

Customer feedback

The response was positive from the beginning. Guests already complimented the new logo during installation, and the team was also very satisfied with the modernized look. When asked to describe the before and after of working with cadout, Susi Schmid said:

“Before, we were neutral and curious about the practical implementation. The configurator definitely contributed to our decision to buy.

Afterwards, the experience was very good. The whole process was very solution-oriented and customer-focused.”
